At the beginning of 2020 I decided that I wanted to keep track of all the films and series I watched throughout the year, I am now currently totalling 210 films and 33 series. It sounds CRAZY! But lets be honest, when we were in total lockdown a few months ago, there was little to do in the evenings but binge a good series or film.
On that note, here’s what I’ve been watching and enjoying this month:
The Undoing – Sky TV is having a real moment with drama right now and The Undoing is no exception. I’m a few episodes in so far, but the psychological miniseries is definitely one to watch. The aftermath of a violent death, a missing husband, and a suspicious affair is all thrown into play, you don’t know who is guilty and who isn’t… put it on your watch list!
Available to watch on Sky TV.
The Crown – Its BACK! Anyone who knows me knows how much I just love following the Royal family. When I discovered The Crown, I fell in love with Claire Foy and Matt Smith’s portrayals of the leading lady and her husband, so it wasn’t easy to fully accept the new cast last year. But now, series 4 has really blown me away, It’s certainly the best yet. The cast is superb and the real-life (dramatised),events are simply fascinating to watch unfold.
Stream all 4 series on Netflix.
Friends from College – I stumbled on this Netflix series looking for an ‘easy watch’ and it quickly became a binge-watch instead. It follows a close-knit, grown up group of Harvard graduates living in New York and how their lives become even more intertwined. Its an unexpected comedy and a really great show. It was sadly cancelled by Netflix after 2 series, but I would highly recommend!
Series 1 and 2 are available to stream now on Netflix.
How to be Single – I wasn’t expecting a whole lot from the film, but was pleasantly surprised. The closing monologue really sums up the film perfectly. It follows the lives of 4 single women at different stages of their singles lives and its not a typical rom-com with a fairy-tale ending. It’s a really great watch. If you liked Bridget Jones or He’s Just Not That Into You, you’ll enjoy this.
Now streaming on Amazon Prime.
Bombshell – I’ve been wanting to watch Bombshell since it was nominated at the Academy Awards earlier this year, but like most, I was waiting until it landed on a streaming platform to watch. (Amazon Prime for those interested). Its a fascinating movie to watch, filled with those ‘Are you serious, this actually happened?’ moments. The drama is based on an amalgamation of true stories of women at Fox News who set out to expose CEO Roger Ailes for sexual harassment.
Streaming via Amazon Prime Video.
Holidate – If you’re looking for a hard-hitting, gritty film, this is not it. If you’re seeking early festive cheer, a really easy watch and a few cringe moments then Holidate is the one for you. I wouldn’t say it was your typical Hallmark Chanel movie (we all know those cringe ones with the incoherent stories) but it’s a new Christmas film, so why not? It scores in the 40’s on Rotten Tomatoes so I highly doubt we’d be seeing this nominated for anything other than a Razzie, but hey – give it a go, you might be surprised!
Streaming on Netflix right now.
